I recently completed a product management internship with Side Hustle, where I learned a lot about implementing market research, competitive analysis, product development, and agile methodologies in a product. I learned the value of research and how important it is to conduct market research before launching a product. Market research entails the quantitative which is the (primary) and qualitative is the (secondary) market research.
The product went from concept to launch with the help of my team. Before launching a product, they must go through the following stages: idea generation, product definition, prototyping, initial design, validation and testing, and commercialization. My team and I were assigned the task of product managing a food application and creating a 5-page Product Requirement Document (PRD) that included several essential components such as a title, change history, overview, pain points, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria for each feature during the final week of the internship. We also created a user flowchart using Whimsical to show how users would navigate the application to accomplish their objectives.
My team and I used the power of collaboration to achieve our goal by dividing the task into subgroups, with each member taking on a specific role. I developed user stories and acceptance criteria for each feature. To effectively communicate and collaborate with one another, we made use of project tools like ClickUp and Slack; trust me, this was an amazing ride.
The collective efforts of team members toward a common goal are essential for success. My team members brought their unique skills and strengths to the project, worked together, brainstormed together, shared ideas, identified and solved problems, and leveraged each other's strengths to achieve the project's objectives. Effective communication is also critical in teamwork, and project teams must ensure that everyone is on the same page and has a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
Overall experience is awesome, I gained valuable insights into the product development process and learned how to manage competing priorities and deadlines with a team while maintaining a focus on delivering a high-quality product that meets the needs of our users. Damilola Asuelimen thank you for your daily mentoring.
